YPS Annual Achievement Day 2012

15 Nov 2012 (Thurs):

Yishun Primary School Annual Achievement Day 2012 - P1/P2. Daddy was able to take time off & attended Lionel's Prize Presentation Ceremony. Too bad, Mummy here was busier than the bumblebee & was not able to apply leave, although she would have love to sneak off.

Lionel received a trophy - Outstanding Pupil Award.

This is the trophy.

And Lionel got this certificate for his hardwork in reading & summarizing over 80 Chinese story books.

The teacher has apologise for the mistake made in Lionel's class - it shd be 1 Respect & not 1 Independence. The 2 classes combined during Chinese lessons, hence the teacher overlooked. I am A okay with that.

This video is an edited version of the Angklung Ensemble & Band Performance on the day itself. Daddy took a few videos of more than 10 mins long for each.

2012 Year End Academic Results

13 Nov 2012 (Tues):

Happy Deepavali to all our Hindu friends.

Lionel got back his year end academic results for 2012 yesterday. He has done well & we are very proud of his results. Daddy acknowledged his hard work with a promise to Legoland next year.

Holistic Progress Report Primary One.

His English & Chinese Language results are all Exceeding Expectations. In Semester 1, some of his Chinese results were only Meeting Expectations as you can see on the left of the 2 columns but he has improved for Semester 2.

Maths results are also all Exceeding Expectations.

His Social Skills are all also Exceeding Expectations & together with As for all his other subjects such as Social Studies, Physical Education, Health Education, Arts n Craft & Music.

His teacher's comment for Semester 2: Lionel displays a positive role as a leader. He is a hardworking and diligent student. Keep it up Lionel!

Rachel's Primary Ballet Exam

09 Nov 2012 (Fri):

Rachel's having her primary level ( I just found out her grade; and i thought it was pre-primary all along) ballet exam this afternoon. There was a little boohoo made. Her exam time was at 430pm so Ms Wu told us to be in school by 3pm. At about 12 noon, Ms Wu smsed all parents to apologise for the wrong exam timing given. All exam timing has been brought forward by an hour so this means we have to be in school by 130pm instead.

Luckily, I have written a request to Little Footprints earlier on for a change in her Chinese Paper Year End Assessment from the afternoon session to the morning session instead & her principal has kindly agreed to the change. Thanks, Ms Shufen.

Rachel has her lunch, bath, changed &  I proceeded to tie her hair into a bun.

All ready..

Team 1 - (left to right): Jiaqi, Giselle, Wenxuan & Sharlene.

All the best, gals.

How to grow wheatgrass

09 Nov 2012 (Fri):

This is another new project we have ongoing in our household. Growing wheatgrass! Ha.

What you need: organic soil, sprouting tray, wheat seeds, sprouting jar.

DIY your own sprouting jar; get any jar or container and a piece of mesh ( you can get those easily from any hardware shop). Spread the wheat seeds into the sprouting tray to see how much seeds goes into it. You wouldnt want overcrowding.

Now to begin: Soak the wheat seeds in your sprouting jar for 8-12hrs or overnight. After that, rinse 2-3 times to get rid of any unwanted remains. Cover the jar with the mesh & tilt it at an angle so that the excess water can be drain.

Continue rinsing the seeds twice a day till you see sprouts ( see above pic, bottom left). Spread the organic soil onto the tray, about 1.5cm thick. Water the soil to keep it damp. Transfer your wheat sprouts onto the tray, spreading the seeds around evenly. Try not to have the seedlings one on top of the other. Cover every inch of the soil. Next, take some newspaper to cover the seedlings. Shower the newspaper to keep it damp as well.

Place the tray in a dark & cool place; away from direct sunlight. Continue watering it twice a day. In about 2 days, your wheatgrass will grow beautifully.

This was taken on the 3rd day.

And measurements were taken on the 09 Nov 2012. The kids were eager to grind the wheatgrass into juice so we proceeded to snip off the wheatgrass, leaving behind about 1cm from the surface of the tray.

Wash the snipped wheatgrass & pour them into your juice grinder. Add a few pieces of ice cubes, about 1/2 cup of water. Add sugar to taste. And presto, you have you very own wheatgrass juice. You can even add honey.

The wheatgrass continues to grow....
